Factors That Contribute to Successful Growth in Southwest Florida

Here in Southwest Florida, we are lucky to be exposed to so many innovative businesses, such as global brands, Fortune 500 companies, family-owned businesses, and fast-growing startups. Across all industries in our region, we come across promising businesses on a daily basis. But, today we’d like to highlight one specific family-owned business that is standing out and making a positive impact in our region.

We had the pleasure of interviewing MY Shower Door, a fast-growing Fort Myers-based business that we all should be keeping an eye on. My Shower Door is a highly successful small business that opened its doors in this region in September of 2003. Since that time MY Shower Door has grown to 68 employees and they now have Florida showrooms in Naples, Fort Myers, Sarasota, Tampa, and Winter Park. In 2016, MY Shower Door was ranked in the top half of the “5,000 fastest-growing companies” in the United States, determined by Inc. Magazine, for the second consecutive year.

Bill Daubmann, Owner of My Shower Door, shared some exciting news with us — MY Shower Door and D3 Glass (the only tempering firm in SWFL) will be expanding and relocating to a new location in South Fort Myers off of Alico Road. The expansion demonstrates the growing demand for MY Shower Door service installations and D3 Glass products. The new 55,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility will house their headquarters and glass manufacturing facility. The expansion will stimulate economic growth by providing employment opportunities to the area over the next few years.

You may be wondering what has enabled the success of this specific family-owned-andoperated business? In speaking with Bill, we’d have to say their success stems from multiple factors. However, one thing that stood out and was very apparent to us, after getting to know Bill, was that he has an immense passion for what he does and is 100 percent invested in his team.

So if you are thinking of starting a business in Southwest Florida, here are just a few tips directly from serial entrepreneur Bill Daubmann, owner of My Shower Door, on what you need to do to be successful.

1. Always Network

f you are starting a business, it’s important to grow your professional and personal network. The information and knowledge that you can gain from other influential leaders is extremely valuable to any business and will help with your overall growth. Get out there and develop a presence in your community!

2. Get Your Brand Out There – Be Unique

Make your brand and message stand out from the competition. In this day and age, it takes a lot of creativity to market your brand successfully. Don’t follow in anyone else’s footsteps, create your own definition. Once your brand has been defined, it’s time to get the word out!

3. Invest in Your Employees – Employee Training is Worth the Investment

Bill Daubmann believes that employee development is a critical part of creating a lasting and successful business. At MY Shower Door, they’ve implemented a strong employee education and training program to ensure longevity.
