Permits reflect Lee County construction boom

Lee County saw another upswing in residential and commercial permit activity last year, but experts question how long the trend will last.

In 2015, the county issued 1,202 single-family permits in the unincorporated area, outside of city limits, according to a report by Lee County Community Development. That was an increase of 21 percent over 2014.

Some of the more active homebuilders in Lee County last year included Lennar, Pulte/Centex and Taylor Morrison.

The county saw an even bigger jump in multifamily permits last year. Contractors pulled 2,094 of them in 2015, up 216 percent from a year ago, in part reflecting a surge in apartment construction.
